Tennessee Tech (18-11, 9-6 OVC)
Saturday, Feb. 23 - 7:30 p.m. - Eblen Center
Game Notes I Live Stats I Live Radio I ESPN3
The Murray State Racers finish the regular season with a game at Tennessee Tech Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Eblen Center in Cookeville, Tenn. The game will be aired on the Racer TV Network. MSU won the first meeting this season between the two at the CFSB Center 82-74 (Jan. 14) in front of what was then a record crowd of 8,691.
The games on the Racer TV Network are available to all 100,000-plus Time Warner, Mediacom, Murray Electric and Comcast subscribers at no additional charge.
Time Warner customers will see the broadcasts on channel 16, in all areas west of Kentucky Lake and in Hopkinsville and Madisonville. Mediacom is seen in Marshall, Calloway, Trigg and Caldwell Counties as well as southern Illinois on channel 23. Murray Electric services the city of Murray and carries the games on channels 15 and 18, while Comcast subscribers will see the Racers on channel 17 in McCracken County and southern Illinois.
The Racers are coming off an impressive 80-62 win at Tennessee State Thursday in which they hit the Tigers with a 14-0 run in the final 2:30 of the first half. Isaiah Canaan and Donte Poole combined for 40 points on 14-of-24 from the field and 9-of-15 from three point range. MSU has now won four straight since their only loss to TSU (Feb. 9).
The regular season final finds the Racers trying to do something that has never been accomplished in 86 previous seasons of the program. That is going through an entire season without a road loss. The Racers are 12-0 on the road this season and attempt to be the first MSU team to run the road table. Only three times in MSU history as a team gone through the season with only one loss with the last coming in the 1997-98 season when Mark Gottfried's Racers finished 29-4, won the OVC regular season and tournament titles and played Rhode island in the NCAA Tournament. The 97-98 team is the only one-loss road squad in the modern era. The others all happened before the OVC was born in 1948. MSU can also tie the longest road win streak in their history with a win. The current mark of 13 was set in 1998-99.
The Racers are the outright Ohio Valley Conference regular season champions for the third straight season having clinched the title (Feb. 15) with a win at Southeast Missouri State. In addition to the road record they're shooting for, the Racers can also become the fourth team to run through the OVC with only one loss. The teams from 1987-88, 1993-94 and 2009-10 also hold this distinction.
MSU has already clinched its 23rd overall title and third in a row (all solo titles, MSU has 15 overall). This season marks the first time since 1992 that the Racers have won three straight outright titles. The Racers' three straight titles is the first since 2000 when the program won the last of seven straight championships. Coach Steve Prohm is the eighth straight MSU coach to win an OVC regular season championship.
