Women’s Tennis Earns 5-2 Win Over Central Arkansas

The Murray State women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 win over Central Arkansas at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Ky.
After dropping the doubles point on a tie-breaker at No. 3 doubles, the Racers (3-3) started to fight back during singles play.
Junior Ashley Canty started the singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Allison Murphy at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Carla Suga added a second point to give MSU a 2-1 advantage with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Sasha Ruocco.
The Bears tied the match at two-all with a win at No. 1 singles, but freshman Jordana Klein gave the Racers a 3-2 lead by defeating Kristina Horsikyan, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Senior Ashley Pierson secured the win for the Racers with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 win over Stephanie Gonzalez at No. 6 singles. Freshman Carolyn Huerth added the fifth point for MSU with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 win over Kazumi Otani at No. 5 singles.
MSU will now start a five-match road swing, Feb. 29 at Saint Louis. The next home match for the Racers is scheduled for March 18 when MSU opens Ohio Valley Conference action against SIU Edwardsville at noon at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts.
