Women’s Tennis Set to Face Memphis and SIU Edwardsville

The Murray State women's tennis team will wrap-up a five-match road trip and plays its first Ohio Valley Conference match of the 2011-12 season over the weekend. The Racers (4-6) will first travel to Martin, Tenn., to face Memphis, Thursday, March 15 at 10 a.m. at Varsity Courts. MSU will then return to the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts to face SIU Edwardsville, Sunday, March 18 at noon.
The Tigers are 8-3 on the year and will play UT Martin after facing the Racers March 15. Memphis has won its last two matches and has already played one OVC team this season, earning a 7-0 win over Austin Peay.
This will be the 46th meeting in the all-time series with the Tigers, with Memphis having earned wins in the last two meetings. The last time the Racers and Tigers met was March 6, 2009 and Memphis took the 5-2 win. The last MSU win was Feb. 2, 2007 (6-1).
The Cougars are 5-6 overall so far this season and will have already played one league match before coming to Murray. SIUE will travel to Clarksville, Tenn., March 17 to battle Austin Peay.
The Racers currently own an 8-5 lead in the all-time series and have been the winners in the last three meetings. The teams played each other last season, with MSU taking the 6-1 win (April 8) in Edwardsville, Ill. The last home match was Feb. 13, 2010, with the Racers earning a 7-0 win at Kenlake.
