Racers Earn Four Top-Five Finishes at Shamrock Invitational

In the first outdoor meet of the 2011-12 campaign, the Murray State women's track & field team saw four top-5 finishes at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C.
Junior Alexis Love continued right where she left off from the indoor season by claiming first in the 100. The Palmetto, Fla., native ran the fastest in the prelims (of 117 participants), with a time of 11.66. She then bested that time in the finals, to take the title in 11.42. Both times were personal best finishes in the event. Love was just 0.42 off the pace of 11.00 set by Heather Samuel in 1994 for the current MSU record.
Freshman LaShae Shaw added a second-place finish for the Racers in the B section of the high jump. The Memphis, Tenn., native cleared the bar at 1.60m (5'3”). Fellow freshman Ashley Conway added a sixth-place finish in the A section of the high jump, with the same clear of 1.60m (5'3”).
Senior Rebecca Hbetamu crossed the line in the 10,000 in a career-best time of 38:48.87 for third place. Freshman Carolyne Tanui was eighth in the same event, with a time of 40:09.04.
Sophomore Sharda Bettis added the final top-5 finish with a fourth-place mark in the 100 hurdles. The Dallas, Texas native finished the prelims in 14.16 and then the finals in 14.32. Shaw finished sixth in the 100 hurdles with times of 14.68 and 14.65.
The Racers next meet is scheduled for March 24 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold.
