The Murray State women's tennis team claimed a 6-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to remain undefeated in conference action.
"Another great conference win for this program today,” said head coach Kara Amundson. “It was big for us to get the doubles point right off the bat to set the tone. I am continually proud of how resilient this team is throughout our matches."
The Racers (7-7, 2-0 OVC) claimed the doubles point winning No. 1 and No. 3 doubles before dropping No. 2 doubles. Senior Cassidy Cunitz and junior Ashley Canty defeated Nikole Noikova and Melissa Martin 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and senior Ashley Pierson and freshman Jordana Klein earned an 8-3 win over Elizabeth Nyenwe and Lauren Schaper at No. 3 doubles.
Cunitz made the score 2-0 for MSU with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Novikova at No. 1 singles. The Redhawks then earned their lone point of the match with a win at No. 5 singles. Pierson put the match within reach, with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Laura Garcia at No. 6 singles.
Klein earned the deciding point for the Racers by defeating Jessica Courtnell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Carla Suga added the fifth point by earning a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win over Martin at No. 4 singles. Canty was the last to finish at No. 2 singles and added the final point for MSU, with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 win over Nyenwe at No. 2 singles.
