Tennessee Tech jumped out to an early advantage and then held on the rest of the game as the Golden Eagles handed Murray State a 6-1 defeat Friday evening in the first game of a three-game series at Bush Stadium.

The Golden Eagles (10-15, 2-2 OVC) got on the board in the first inning as a pair of base hits put runners on the corners with no outs. A 3-6-1 double play allowed one run to score before Zach Stephens hit a solo home run to right center.

TTU added a run in the third as Austin Wulf drew a leadoff walk and stole second. With one out, Ben Burgess hit an RBI single up the middle.

The Golden Eagles took advantage of a throwing error to push across their fourth run in the sixth inning. With a runner on first and one out, Zephan Guyear hit a one hopper back to the mound that was thrown into center field to put runners on the corners. With two outs, Dylan Bosheers delivered an RBI single to right center.

The Breds (14-13, 1-3 OVC) got on the board in the seventh as Travis Isaak was hit by a pitch with one out. Jacob Rhodes singled through the right side to put runners on the corners and Mike Kozlowski drove in the runner with a groundout.

TTU got the run back in the home-half of the inning as a walk and two singles loaded the bases with one out. James Abraham plated the run on a fielder's choice to short.

The Golden Eagles extended the lead in the eighth as a leadoff double came around to score on a Bosheers single to left against a drawn-in infield.

Tyler Beers (3-2) took the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits and five strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Tristan Archer (3-1) earned the victory after allowing one run on four hits and six strikeouts in a complete game.

The two teams play the middle game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
