Racers End Season At OVC Tennis Championship In Loss to EKU

The Murray State men's tennis team finished the 2011-12 season with a 4-0 loss in the first round of the Ohio valley Conference Tennis Championship at Centennial Sportplex in Nashville, Tenn., Friday.

MSU saw their doubles pairs fall when Arthur Valle and Daniel Heibel lose to EKU's Hugo Klientovsky and Carles Pons 8-0. When
Max Mclean and Joao Camara fell 8-2 to Pavul Verma and Jan Dombrowski, it meant the Racers needed a big rally in singles play.

Valle lost 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles spot to Klientovsky, while Berardo went town 6-1, 6-2 to Phil Janz. Hiebel lost Verma 6-2, 6-0. The other singles matches went unfinished once EKU gained the four points to win the best of seven points.

“I'm proud of the way our guys fought this season,” MSU Head Coach Mel Purcell said. “No one likes to lose and our guys kept fighting to the end. We handled ourselves in the right way.”

MSU Tennis says goodbye to their lone senior Jose Berardo who played his final match today.

“Jose has been such a leader to our team and a great player for four years for the Racers,” Purcell said. “He's got a great career outside of tennis ahead of him and he'll always be a Racer. We're going to miss him.”
