Racers T&F Finish Second at Showdown on the Cumberland

Murray State track and field wrapped up its final event before next week's OVC Outdoor Championships, finishing second at the Showdown of the Cumberland in Clarksville, Tenn.
Sharda Bettis took first place in the 200m dash, winning the event with a time of 25.56, nine-tenths of a second ahead of the second place finisher. Halie Holloway placed in sixth in 28.60.
Holloway and Natalie Pattin earned back-to-back finishes in the 400m dash, Holloway placing in fourth in 1:00.04 and Pattin running in 1:00.04 to finish fifth. Katie Forshey also earned a top-10 finish, running in 1:02.13 to finish ninth.
Brittany Bohn and Abbie Oliver also finished back-to-back in the 800m, Bohn taking second place with a personal best in 2:20.38, and Oliver two seconds back in third in 2:22.02.
Carolyne Tanui placed fourth in the 1,500m, crossing the finish line with an individual best time of 4:56.31. Rebecca Hbetamu was the next highest finisher, running 5:06.34 in seventh.
The Racers 4 x 100m relay team took first, running a 46.73 to win by 1.15 seconds.
Ashley Conway took first in the high jump with a distance of 1.60m. LaShea Shaw finished in second at 1.55m and was matched in third at the same distance by Katie Forshey.
Tonia Pratt blew away the competition in the discus, winning the event by four and a half meters with a toss personal best throw of 47.33m. Brianna McCarthy also threw a personal record distance of 37.82m, as did Ashley Dumas in 30.78m
Pratt also earned first place honors in the shot put, setting another personal best at 14.03m. Conway ranked fourth in the event at 11.64m with Addie Paris fifth in 11.38m.
Lexie Barr won another event for the Racers, finishing first overall in the pole vault. She cleared a distance of 3.38m to take first.
The Racers return to action at the OVC Championships next weekend, traveling to Cape Girardeau. The 2012 event will be hosted by Southeast Missouri State.
