Steve Prohm vs EIU: 2-0
The Murray State Racers come home for a two game stand this week with Eastern Illinois and SIUE at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. EIU comes to town Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip which can be heard over the air on Racer Radio on WFGE 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. The game will also be seen on the OVC Digital Network with streaming video.
The Racers rebounded from a home loss last Wednesday to Eastern Kentucky to win for the fourth straight time at Austin Peay Saturday 71-68. Isaiah Canaan scored 26 points and Ed Daniel had his ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds as the Racers (12-4) moved their mark in the Ohio Valley Conference to 3-1.
Freshmen Jeffery Moss and Erik McCree are two of MSU's best options off the bench through the first 16 games. Moss has appeared in 14 games overall and is scoring 8.3 points per game in OVC play and didn't miss a free throw this season until last Saturday at APSU. McCree has seen action in 15 games this season and is hauling in 4.3 rebounds per game in four OVC games so far.
The Racers are getting great play from the All-America Canaan who is scoring 24.0 points per game in OVC play (He's sixth in the nation and first in the OVC with a scoring clip of 21.9 overall). Daniel, an All-OVC preseason pick, is pulling down 10.8 rebounds and is tops in the OVC and 11th in the nation.
Canaan and Daniel rank among the best in MSU history in several categories including all-time scoring and rebounding. Canaan is ninth in scoring with 1,724 points and is on pace to become the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th in the OVC. Daniel's 581 rebounds ranks him 16th all-time at MSU, just behind 15th place Tony Easley (2005-11) who had 610.
Eastern Illinois (3-15, 0-5 OVC) had home losses last week to Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State by scores of 77-73 to Tech and 61-55 to JSU. EIU has lost 11 games in a row dating back to Nov. 24. The Panthers lead the OVC in rebounding defense (30.6/game). EIU is led by Taylor Jones who ranks first in the OVC in 3-point shooting for conference games at 59.1 percent. Morris Woods leads EIU with 11 points per game in five OVC games.
After the EIU game, the Racers host SIUE Saturday in a women's/men's double header with tip times set for 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
