The Murray State Racers host the Austin Peay Governors in the second meeting of the season between the two Saturday at noon at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. ESPNU will air the game on television while Racer Radio has the game on WFGE 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. ESPN3 will provide online video. The game also marks MSU basketball alumni weekend as several former players, coaches and managers will return to campus. The group will be recognized at half time.
The Racers (15-5) are 6-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference and haven't played since last Saturday. MSU leads the west division after splitting a pair of road games last week. MSU scored a 47-39 win at Tennessee Tech (Jan. 24), but lost at Jacksonville State 65-64 (Jan. 26). The Govs (5-17, 1-7) has also had the week off after losing last Saturday at JSU 81-74 and at TTU 70-52 (Jan. 26).
The Racers are 6-2 at home in the CFSB Center this season with NCAA D-I wins over Old Dominion, Western Kentucky, Eastern Illinois and SIUE with losses to Valparaiso and Eastern Kentucky. MSU has won their last two at home.
MSU won the first meeting with the Govs of the season at the Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tenn. by a 71-68 score in a contest that had nine tied scores and 13 lead changes. Isaiah Canaan scored 26 points and MSU also got a double-double from Ed Daniel of 21 points and 13 rebounds.
MSU All-America selection Isaiah Canaan enters the APSU game with a school-record streak of 29 games with a made three-point basket. Canaan is 204 points from becoming the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th in the history of the OVC. Canaan is currently ninth on the MSU career scoring list just behind eighth place Frank Allen (1989-93) at 1,811 points. Canaan also passed Allen's career made three-point basket list and now has 270. The OVC standard was set by Austin Peay's Joe Sibbitt (1994-98) at 319.
All-OVC Preseason selection Ed Daniel leads the OVC with a .590 field goal percentage and he's tops in the league and eighth in the nation with a rebound average of 11.0 per game. Daniel is 11th in the OVC in scoring with 14.3 points per game.
The game with APSU begins a season-long three game home stand for MSU. Thursday (Feb. 7) MSU hosts Belmont in a 7 p.m. game also on ESPNU and Tennessee State (Feb. 9) in a 7 p.m. tip on the OVC Digital Network.
