Racers Conclude Road Trip at Austin Peay

Murray State volleyball's three game roadtrip to open their OVC schedule, makes it last stop in Clarksville, Tenn. against Austin Peay. The 11-5 (1-1, OVC) Racers battle the 4-13 Governors (1-1, OVC) tonight at 7 p.m.

Murray State opened conference play with a win against Tennessee Tech and a loss at Jacksonville State this past weekend. Both matches went into five sets. Against the Golden Eagles, the two teams traded wins until the Racers ended the match with a 15-11 win in set No. 5. Alyssa Lelm and Taylor Olden led the Racers with 17 kills.

The Gamecocks jumped ahead of the Racers two sets to none on Saturday, but Murray State was able to even the match at two before dropping the fifth set 15-8. Sam Bedard notched her first career triple-double with 47 assists, 22 digs and 10 kills. She finished with 93 assists in the two matches. Lelm again led the Racers with 20 kills, reaching the 20 kill plateau for just the second time in her career.

Tuesday will mark the 66th meeting between these two schools with Austin Peay holding a 34-31 series lead. The Governors have won seven straight matches dating back to 2009 after the Racers took seven in a row from 2006-2009. Murray State has not won in Clarksville since 2008, and is 11-16 all time on the road against Austin Peay.

Austin Peay opened OVC play splitting two games this past weekend. Like the Racers, the Governors defeated Tennessee Tech, but fell to Jacksonville State. Austin Peay has lost nine of their past 11 matches.

The Governors have four student-athletes with more than 100 kills, led by Calyn Hull with 179. She is also third on the team with 119 digs and second with nine service aces. Lauren Henderson is just outside the top 50 in aces per set. She checks in at No. 56 with .41. Henderson also leads the team with 36 total blocks.
