The Murray State women's soccer team will play its season finale Sunday when it hosts Austin Peay at 1 p.m. at Cutchin Field. Before the contest, Shauna Wicker and Tasha Merritt will be honored as part of Senior Day.
The Racers ended a four-game slide Friday by pulling out a 1-0 win on the road at Jacksonville State. Julie Mooney set up the game winner in the 80th minute when she fired a shot that was deflected by the JSU keeper.
Bronagh Kerins then gathered up the rebound and put the ball in the back of the nest for her fist goal of the season. The Racers put just two of their 15 shots on the day on target, but the one goal proved to be all the offense needed, as MSU held on for the 1-0 win.
The Racers hold an 8-4-1 advantage all-time against Austin Peay and are 4-2-1 at Cutchin Field. The Racers snapped a three-match winless streak in the series last season when they handed APSU one of its only two OVC losses all season, 1-0, in Clarksville.
The Lady Govs enter Sunday on the OVC tournament bubble and is currently 10-4-2 overall and 5-3-1 in OVC play. Last week, the Lady Govs also got a win at Jacksonville State, topping the Gamecocks, 3-0. Andy Quiceno led APSU in the contest by scoring one goal and assisting on the other two. Goalkeeper Nikki Filippone registered her third clean sheet of the season by going the full 90 minutes and making four saves.
Tatiana Ariza currently leads her team with a league-high 14 goals on the years, and, along with Courtney Sheppard, also leads the assists category with four. Filippone has featured in 16 contests this season for the Lady Govs and has a goals against average of 0.67 and has made 36 saves.
