Racers Travel for Battle With UT Martin

STORY LINES
The Racers return from their bye week as they travel to face UT Martin at 1 p.m. at Graham Stadium. The game will be carried live on the Racer TV Network.
The Racers hold a 35-16-1 advantage in the all-time series, but the Skyhawks have won seven of the last eight meetings. MSU has lost four-straight on the road in the series, with the last victory coming in 2003, 41-26.
The first quarter has been the difference in the series over the past six years. In five of the past six meetings, the winning team has scored 28 points in the first quarter. The Racers are just 1-4 in those games.
Senior wide receiver Walter Powell became the Racers all-time leader in receiving yards in the victory over Austin Peay. He now has 2,515 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns. His 196 career receptions rank second on the all--time list, trailing only Marcus Harris' 216 career catches.
The Racer defense is coming off its best effort of the season as they held Austin Peay to 196 yards of total offense. It is the fewest yards allowed just allowing 192 yards against SEMO in 2008.

UT Martin returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter and held off a late Racer comeback in a 66-59 shootout at Stewart Stadium.

The first quarter has been the decider in the series over the last six meetings. Five times in those six games, the winning team has scored 28 points in the first quarter. The Racers are just 1-4 in those games with the lone victory coming in 2010.
Under 200 Yards
The Racer defense held Austin Peay to just 196 yards of total offense. It was the fewest yards allowed to an FCS opponent by a Racer defense since holding Southeast Missouri to 192 yards in 2008. MSU held Kentucky Wesleyan to 164 yards in 2009.
60 Yards Passing
The 60 passing yards allowed by the Racer defense was the fewest allowed to an FCS opponent since Eastern Illinois threw for 53 yards in 2006. Kentucky Wesleyan threw for just 12 yards in 2009.

Murray State held Austin Peay to just three points in the victory. It is the fewest points allowed since the Racers shutout Mississippi Valley State in 2011. It is also the fewest points allowed in a conference game since MSU beat UT Martin, 38-0, in 2004.
Powell Sets Yards Record
Senior Walter Powell set another career record when he passed Marcus Harris to become the all-time leading receiver in MSU history. Powell now has 2,515 career receiving yards. His 196 career receptions rank second to Harris' all-time record of 216.
Berry Breaks Loose
Jaamal Berry had his best game of the season as he rushed 22 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns against Austin Peay. Berry scored on runs of 40 and three yards in the first half. It was his first 100-yard performance of the season.
Miller Perfect in 2nd Half
Quarterback Maikhail Miller was not called upon to pass much against Austin Peay, but he was effective when he did. Miller was perfect in the second half as he went 10-for-10 for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Mix Earns OVC Honor
Punter Steven Mix was honored as the OVC co-Specialist of the Week after averaging 41.8 yards on five punts. Four of his five punts were downed inside the 20-yard line, including three inside the six.
