The Murray State women's basketball team saw three players score in double digits and two players pull down double-digit rebounds as it used a balanced attack to top Evansville, 62-50, Monday on the road at the Ford Center.

The Racers (2-0) led for a majority of the game and jumped out to an early lead thanks to poor shooting by the Purple Aces (1-1). The Racers shot 28.2 percent from the floor in the opening stanza, compared to 20.5 by Evansville, and took a four-point lead into the locker room at the break.

Murray State opened the second half on a 7-0 run and led by as many as 14 points mid-way through the final frame. However, Evansville would not go away and cut the lead to just five points with less than five minutes to play.

With 1:55 left Nikia Edom drained a 3-pointer to put MSU up by eight and took away any momentum the Purple Aces had built. After Edom's three, Evansville took to fouling, and thanks to clutch free throw shooting by the Racers, they were able to hold on for the 62-50 win.

Edom and Keiona Kirby led the Racers with a game-high 13 points, with Edom turning in a near 7-for-8 performance from the charity stripe. Jashae Lee followed with 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds for MSU's lone double-double, while Jessica Winfrey pulled down a near career-high 17 boards and scored seven points as well.

Mallory Ladd led the Purple Aces with 13 points and 19 rebounds, while Sara Dickey was the only other UE player to reach double digits with 12 points.

Murray State will have nearly a whole week off before closing out a two-game road swing Saturday. The Racers will travel to E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green to take on in-state rival Western Kentucky at 2 p.m.
