Racers Host Bethel At The CFSB Center

The Murray State Racers return home to the CFSB Center Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game with the Bethel Wildcats. The Racer Radio Network will air the 7 p.m. game on WGFE 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Live online streaming video from OVCDigitalNetwork.com is free of charge.
The Racers (1-2) are coming off a 70-60 road loss to Old Dominion Friday night. MSU used a 16-4 run and enjoyed a 36-29 halftime lead. But the Racers went cold in the second half and were outscored by the Monarchs 41-24. Cameron Payne led the Racers with a 17 point-five assist night, while MSU put four other players in double-figures. Jeffery Moss had 11 points, with Jarvis Williams and Dexter Fields each adding 10 points. Williams had his second straight double-double with 12 rebounds.
Coming out of the weekend, the Racers have a balanced scoresheet going. Cameron Payne is seventh in the OVC with 15.0 points per game, while Dexter Fields ranks 11th at 14.0. Jeffery Moss (13.7) is 15th in the league and Jarvis Williams (11.7) is 25th. Williams' rebound average of 11.0 is fourth in the OVC. The Racers are fifth in scoring offense (77.0) and defense (72.0). MSU is fourth in three-point percentage (.327) and third in field goal percentage defense (.428).
Bethel is 4-2 after dropping their Southern States Athletic Conference opening games over the weekend. The Wildcats lost in Franklin Springs, Ga. (Nov. 15) 81-59 to Emmamuel College. Gary Pollard led the way for Bethel with 19 points including going 4-of-4 from three-point range. BU committed 23 turnovers. A day later (Nov. 16), the Wildcats dropped an 86-78 loss at Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C. after they led 42-38 at the half. Mark Vaughn led Bethel with 22 points. Caleb Hardy leads the Wildcats in scoring at 22.5 per game, but has been injured and hasn't played.
The Racers and Wildcats have a long history that dates back to the 1920's. MSU leads the all-time series 18-3 and have won 11 straight in the series since Bethel's last win in 1929. The teams played 17 times from 1926 to 1934, but didn't play again until 1977. The Racers won last season's meeting at the CFSB Center 76-54.
After the game with Bethel, the Racers hit the road again for a Saturday (Nov. 23) contest at Auburn. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. at Auburn Arena. MSU is back at the CFSB Center against Middle Tennessee on Nov. 26.
