Payne Earns OVC Freshman Of the Week Honor

Murray State's Cameron Payne earned Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors in a vote conducted by the league's sports information directors.
From Bartlett, Tenn., Payne helped Murray State to two home wins last week by averaging 12.5 points, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals/game.
Against Evansville (Dec. 4) he scored 14 points on 6-of-14 from the field to go with five assists and a pair of steals. Payne came back (Dec. 7) against Lipscomb and scored 11 points and dished out six assists. For the week, he was 10-of-22 from the field and had 11 assists and three steals.
Payne is third in the OVC with 5.4 assists per game and 43rd in NCAA D-I. He has led the team in assists in all nine games this season.
On the season, Payne is the highest scoring freshman in the OVC with 13.2 points per game.
This is his second OVC Freshman of the Week award after getting his first Nov. 11.
The Racers (4-5) now focus on semester final exams this week before returning to the court to host Southern Illinois (Dec. 17) at the CFSB Center in a 7 p.m. tip off.
