Canaan Named NBA D League Co-Performer Of The Week

Murray State basketball great Isaiah Canaan was named NBA Development League Co-Performer of the Week for games played Dec. 2-8.
Canaan, who finished playing for the Racers in the spring of 2013 as one of only six players to reach 2,000 points, had a great week playing for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in Hidalgo, Texas.
Canaan was drafted in June by the Houston Rockets and is playing for Rio Grande Valley on assignment from the parent club. Canaan shared the NBAD weekly award with former Baylor star Pierre Jackson who is playing for the Idaho Stampede.
For the week, Canaan helped the Vipers (8-0) to four wins including: 145-116 over the Texas Legends (Dec. 2) and two wins (Dec. 3 & 5 over the Delaware 87ers by scores of 153-109 and 139-126. The Vipers also had a 133-123 win (Dec. 8) over the Iowa Energy. Canaan had season-best 29 points in first game with Delaware.
He was an amazing 20-of-31 from 3-point range in the four games and had 25.5 points, 9.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game.
Rio Grande Valley is 8-0 and Canaan is second on the team in scoring at 21.7 which ranks him 10th in the NBAD League. He is shooting 46 percent from 3-point range making 26-of-57. He was always a good free throw shooter at Murray State ranking eighth all time with a percentage of .803 and so far as a professional, Canaan is shooting 80 percent on 28-of-35.
Canaan and the Vipers play in Austin, Texas Thursday (Dec. 12) against the Austin Toros.
