The Murray State women's basketball team will close out its non-conference schedule this weekend when it travels to DeLand, Fla., for two games in the 2013 Hatter Classic. The racers will first take on host Stetson Friday, followed by Bethune-Cookman Saturday.

The Racers lost a see-saw battle at Alabama A&M Saturday, 69-62. MSU overcame a 10-point deficit in the first half to lead by four at the break. However, after regaining the lead with under six minutes to play and tying with under two minutes to go, the Racers were unable to hold and fell by seven. Jessica Winfrey and Nikia Edom led Murray State in the ball game with 13 point each, while Winfrey and Jashae Lee led the Racers on the boards with eight a piece.
Friday will be the first-ever meeting between Stetson and Murray State. The Racers are 2-0 against Atlantic Sun teams this season having beaten Kennesaw State at home and Lipscomb on the road. Heading into Friday, MSU is 9-15 all-time against teams currently in the Atlantic Sun.

Stetson will enter the weekend at 6-4 overall after grinding out an 83-81 win Tuesday at home against Charlotte. Five Hatters reached double-digits in the contest including a game-high 22 from Sasha Sims. Cherisse Burris was the only player to reach double-digits in the rebound column in the game, as she notched a double-double of 15 points and 12 boards.
Sims currently leads Stetson in scoring with 18.5 points per game and is one of six Hatters that are currently averaging double-digits. Burris is the current leading rebounder for SU with 8.7 per game, to go along with 10.7 points. Stetson currently outscores the competition, 77.3 to 71.1, and also outrebounds opponents, 42.6 to 40.0. So far this season, the Hatters are shooting 44.3 percent from the floor, 33.5 percent from beyond-the-arc and 72.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Saturday will also the first-ever meeting between Bethune-Cookman and Murray State. Historically, MSU is 5-3 against teams from the MEAC. The last time the Racers met up with a MEAC program was on Nov. 28, 2009 when they fell to Morgan States, 84-73, as part of Georgia State's Thanksgiving Tournament in Atlanta.

Bethune-Cookman is coming off a 57-49 win over Jacksonville on Sunday in Daytona Beach. With the win the Lady Wildcats will enter play in the Hatter Classic at 3-7 overall. BCU was powered by big nights from Chastity René Taylor and Shakeyia Colyer in the win, with 23 and 16 points, respectively. Kailyn Williams led Bethune on the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds, while also adding four points, six blocks and a steal.
Taylor currently leads the Lady Wildcats on the season with 16.1 points per game, while Williams is the leading rebounder among regular player with 5.5. As a team, BCU allows 66.3 points per game, while only scoring 54.5. They are currently shooting 34.1 percent from the floor, 26.9 percent from 3-point range and 63.9 percent from the free throw line.
