Murray State (2-5) is home after spending the first four weekends of the season in Northern Indiana, Virginia, Alabama and last weekend in California. The Racers have dropped three straight for the first time in five years after an 89-64 setback Saturday at Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif.
Jarvis Williams leads the Racers in scoring and rebounding ranking 16th in the nation with a 10.4 rebound average and 14.1 scoring average. Freshman Cameron Payne is 43rd in the country with an assist average of 5.4.
Evansville (5-2) suffered its first losses of the season in their last two outings; at Indiana (Nov. 26) 77-46 and at Ohio Saturday (Nov. 30) 81-59. Prior to those losses, UE was 5-0 for just the second time in the last 49 years. D.J. Balentine is fifth in the nation with a 25.3 scoring average and freshman Duane Gibson is 29th in the country with 5.7 assists per game. Balentine and Gibson have each earned MVC weekly honors this season.
The Racers lead the all-time series with the Purple Aces 23-10 and have won the last two in the series including last season at UE 82-70. MSU won the last meeting in Murray in the BracketBusters game in 2011 72-47. UE's last win at MSU was at old Racer Arena in 1991 by a score of 87-80. The Racers have won the last four in the series.
Murray State looks to continue making their home court at the CFSB Center a tough place to win for opponents. Entering the UE game, the Racers are 75-11 (.874) in 16 seasons in the building against non-OVC teams and are 184-33 (.847) overall.
The Racers are glad to stay at home for a while as they host the Lipscomb Bisons Saturday in an afternoon women's/men's doubleheader. The Racer women host New Orleans at 1 p.m. with the men playing Lipscomb at 3 p.m. After next week off to take final semester exams, MSU hosts Missouri Valley squad Southern Illinois (Dec. 17).
