Canaan Earns 10th OVC Weekly Award - Moss Freshman Of The Week

Murray State men's basketball student-athletes Isaiah Canaan and Jeffery Moss earned recognition as Canaan was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week and Moss named Co-OVC Freshman of the Week in a weekly poll of the league's sports information directors.
Canaan has been named the OVC Player of the Week three times this season and now 10 times in his Murray State career.
The OVC Freshman of the Week is a first for Moss and the Racers this season.
Canaan, a senior from Biloxi, Miss., turned in two dominating performances with 35 points and 22 points in MSU wins over Morehead State (Feb. 20) and South Dakota State on Saturday.
He had his seventh career 30-point performance with 35 points against the Eagles, 17 coming in the double-overtime which included his own 10-0 run. He was 10-of-20 from the field and 5-of-12 from three-point range and hit 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Canaan followed with a 22-point game in the BracketBusters event Saturday against the Jackrabbits going 8-of-15 from the field and 5-of-10 from three-point range.
For the week, Canaan scored 28.5 points per game and dished out 4.5 assists and had four steals. He made 51 percent of his shots (18-of-35) and 45 percent from three-point range (10-of-22), he was 11-of-12 from the line for 91 percent.
Canaan, the OVC Preseason Player of the Year and reigning OVC MVP is nearing the 2,000 point milestone entering this week with 1,946 points. He looks to become the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th in the OVC.
Moss Earns Co-OVC Freshman Of The Week Honor
Moss, from Madison, Ala., was a key player of the bench as he played 28 minutes against the Eagles and dished out six assists to go with four points, three steals and two blocked shots. He followed with 29 minutes of playing time against SDSU with seven points and seven rebounds to go with two assists. For the week Moss scored 5.5 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists and had three steals.
The Racers close out the regular season with home games Thursday against UT Martin at 7 p.m. The final game of the season is Saturday when the Racers play Senior Day in a women's and men's double-header starting at 5:15 p.m. against Southeast Missouri State.
Moss shared the award with Eastern Illinois' Alex Austin.
Canaan Named Finalist For Lou Henson Award
The Racer senior star Isaiah Canaan was also named one of 25 finalists for the Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award by CollegeInsider.com.
Canaan, has been ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring nearly all season at 21.2 points per game. He has hit 80 3-pointers this season and is also averaging 3.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.
