2/5/2013 11:52:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Eight decades of Racer Basketball at Murray State University were present on Saturday (Feb. 2) when former players, coaches and managers were introduced at halftime of the Racers game against Austin Peay at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
Former Racerss came from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee to meet with teammates and be a part of the weekend festivities. The group enjoyed dinner with current team members and the coaching staff on Friday night at the CFSB Center. Head Coach Steve Prohm addressed the group, speaking about his first season as head coach in 2011-12 and the team's progress this year.
Athletic Director Allen Ward took the special guests on a tour of the new basketball practice facility following dinner. Alumni were able to see the new offices and practice court, as well as viewing the current team locker room which was renovated in 2010.
Saturday morning the group gathered for brunch before watching the men's and women's basketball teams both get victories over rival Austin Peay. The men's game, a 75-68 overtime win, was televised on ESPNU.
All members that came back to campus for the reunion were introduced at halftime of the men's game.
Paul Bubb, Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, believed the weekend was enjoyed by all.
“This was the second time we've invited former players back,” said Bubb. “Both times we've had very positive comments and feedback. We're considering having a late-summer reunion in the future, as we know there are many who cannot travel at this time of the year because of other commitments. We're looking forward to the next reunion.”
