Coach Prohm Joins NCAA Coaches nationwide in Fight Against Cancer
2/8/2013 4:34:00 PM | Men's Basketball
This season, the Murray State University men's basketball team is in a face-off worthy of the Final Four, but a victory here doesn't mean a trophy or a national championship.
In this challenge, winning means saving lives.
The Racers are part of the Coaches vs. Cancer program, teaming up with the American Cancer Society in the fight of a lifetime.
As part of Coaches vs. Cancer, you can join the Racers in supporting the American Cancer Society at their men's basketball game (Feb. 9) when the Racers taken on the Tigers of Tennessee State. Tipoff is at 7pm at the CFSB Center.
You can also participate by texting the word, “COACH” to 20222 to donate $5 to the American Cancer Society's mission to save lives and create more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.
“Cancer is a tough competitor, but our team is committed to beating it,” said Coach Steve Prohm. “We're very proud to be rallying behind such an important cause and excited that the Murray State basketball program will be able to support the American Cancer Society's efforts to fight cancer.”
Since the alliance of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society in 1993, the Coaches vs. Cancer program has delivered lifesaving messages to thousands of young Americans about staying cancer-free.
“Until there is a cure for cancer, prevention is the key to beating this disease,” said Coach Prohm.
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.
As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 12 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
