USBWA All-District Teams
Murray State's Isaiah Canaan was named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Men's All-District Team for District-4 in a vote by the 900-plus membership of the organization.
Canaan, a senior from Biloxi, Miss., is on the USBWA All-District Team for the second straight season after being picked to the team as a junior in 2012.
The district is chosen from the rosters of the NCAA D-I teams from Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
Canaan is joined on the USBWA All-District-4 team by Player of the Year Kentavious Caldwell-Pope of Georgia. The rest of the team is made up by: Kenny Boynton (Florida), Marshall Henderson (Ole Miss), Joe Jackson (Memphis), Shane Larkin (Miami, FL), Jordan McRae (Tennessee), Nerlens Noel (Kentucky), Trevor Releford (Alabama) and Russ Smith (Louisville).
Canaan is the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Year and was named the top player in the league for the second straight season after he won the award solo as a junior. Canaan is part of the winningest class in the 88 years of Murray State Basketball with 106 wins.
After last weekend's OVC Tournament, Canaan is sixth in the nation in scoring with 21.8 points per game and he ranks 15th in 3-pointers made/game with 3.03, he's also 56th in the nation in making 37 percent of his three-point attempts.
Canaan also surpassed the career 2,000-point mark becoming the sixth to do so at Murray State and the 17th in the history of the OVC.
Last season, Murray State Head Coach Steve Prohm was named the Coach of the Year in the district and this time Jim Larranga of Miami (FL) is the top pick.
The Racers made it to the finals of the OVC Tournament last weekend in Nashville, Tenn., and lost a close 70-68 overtime game to Belmont. MSU is 21-10 and waiting this week to find out if more post-season basketball is in their future.
