Senior Day Sends Racers Into The OVC Tournament

The Murray State Racers weren't able to overcome a second half deficit on Senior Day in an 84-68 loss to Southeast Missouri State at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
Even with the loss, the Racers (20-9) end the regular season 10-6 as the winner of the west division of the Ohio Valley Conference and go into next week's post-season tournament as the No. 2 seed.
The game marked the final home game for a senior class of six with the Racers.
Seniors Isaiah Canaan and Ed Daniel who made their 63rd straight start together led MSU with 22 and 12 points respectively. Daniel added 11 rebounds for his 15th double-double on the season. Canaan sits at 1,999 career points and is looking to be the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th to reach it in the OVC.
Leading early the Racers then fell behind 22-11 at the 11:34 mark.
A 9-1 run that finished at the 5:32 mark on a Canaan three gave MSU their last lead of the day as they went into the half down 47-39.
Trailing 64-52 with 8:07 left, MSU made another run on a pair of threes from Canaan and a tip-in three-point play by Latreze Mushatt. The Racers cut the lead to five at the 5:25 mark but never got any closer.
MSU ended the game shooting 36 percent on 23-of-64 shots, while SEMO was 50 percent on 26-of-52 shots. MSU finished 10-of-24 from three-point range for 42 percent, but SEMO hit 63 percent on 12-of-19.
MSU lost the rebound battle 39-33.
The evening started with a moving scene on the court as seniors Canaan, Daniel, Jordan Burge, Latreze Mushatt, Stacy Wilson and Brandon Garrett were honored along with several family members in front of a crowd of 7,489. The four-year seniors of Canaan, Daniel and Burge are the winningest class in MSU history with 105 wins. Burge, a walk-on student-athlete from Mayfield, Ky., was given the start.
Long time MSU public address announcer Paul Radke was also honored before the game. Saturday was his last game for MSU as he prepares for retirement.
With the end of the regular season, it means the time has come for the OVC Tournament. Here is the schedule for the event next week at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.
The Racers will play the second semifinal Friday at 8 p.m.
