Racers Take Seventh at Bill Cornell Spring Classic

The Murray State track and field team took seventh place overall as a team out of 14 teams over the weekend at the Southern Illinois Bill Cornell Spring Classic. The Racers compiled 35 total points at the meet.
The distance events were the highest scoring disciplines for the Racers over the weekend. Emma Gilmore took second place and ran a new career-best time of 4:41.26 in the 1,500. Abbie Oliver also took 10th in the event with a season-best time of 4:48.01.
The 10,000 was another strong event for MSU. On Friday, Carolyne Tanui ran a new PR in the event, finishing in third with a time of 37:42.99. Leah Krause placed fourth, running a career-best time of 40:29.85.
Field events also scored well at the meet. The Racers picked up a pair of top-10 finishes in the high jump from Ashley Conway and Katie Forshey. Conway took fourth with a leap of 5'-3”. Forshey took 10th with a new personal-high mark of 5'-1” in the event.
Sydney Potts took fourth place in the javelin with a toss of 112 feet. Tonia Pratt had a solid weekend for the Racers, garnering three top-eight finishes. Pratt finished eighth in the discus (138'-7”, season-best), the hammer throw (166'-5”) and in the shot put (44'-8”).
Kiara Austin took eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 37'-4”. Brittany Bohn, Natalie Pattin and LaShea Shaw also picked up top-10 finishes over the weekend. Bohn placed 10th with a new PR time of 11:37.88 in the 3,000 steeplechase. Pattin was ninth with a career-best time of 59.56 in the 400 dash, while Shaw ran a time of 14.73 in the 100-meter hurdles and took seventh place.
The Racers will return to action next weekend as they will host their lone home meet of the season with the Maragret Simmons Invitational on Saturday at Marshall Gage Track.
