Weekend Baseball
The Breds hit the road for the opening of Ohio Valley Conference action as they travel to face Morehead State on March 8-10. Due to field conditions, the game will be played at Legacy Field at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
Weekend Weather
The weather will warm up as the weekend progresses. Temperatures are expected to be in the 40s for the game on Friday, and then increase to the 50s on Saturday and near 60 on Sunday.
Series Moved to Mason, Ohio
After the field at Morehead State was deemed unplayable, the weekend series between the two teams has been moved to Legacy Field at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
First Trip to Ohio
The weekend series will mark the first time the Breds will play a game in the state of Ohio. MUR has played many teams from the state, but never in the state.
vs. Morehead State
The Breds and Eagles have met 100 times prior on the diamond with MUR holding a 57-42-1 advantage in the series. The Eagles won the series the last two years, after the Breds won the previous five series.
OVC Openers
The Breds have not enjoyed success on opening weekend of conference play in recent years. MUR has not won a series on the opening weekend of conference play since defeating Samford in 2007. The Breds split a two-game series with Austin Peay in 2011.
Early Start to Conference Play
This weekend marks the third earliest start to OVC play for the Breds. MUR began conference action on March 7 during the 1998 season, and on March 5 during the 1988 season. Both of those were 24-game conference seasons with the season ending the first weekend in May.
Rotation Shuffle
The Breds rotation will be different this weekend as Andrew Bramley and Cashtyn DeLeeuw will join Cameron Finch. Will Handlin has moved back into the bullpen, where he thrived a season ago.
First-Inning Runs
The Breds have gotten on the board early this season. MSU has scored at least one run in seven of the last nine games. The Breds are 4-3 in those games.
Eggo Goes Deep
Designated hitter Brandon Eggenschwiler hit his first home run of the season against Canisius. The junior ripped a 2-1 pitch over the fence in right field for a three-run home run. It was the first round tripper for the team this season, and the third of Eggo's career.
Rafferty 1 Pitch 2 Outs
John Rafferty had one of the most effective relief outings you can have. He entered the game in the sixth inning with two on and one out. After warming up, Rafferty got a 5-4-3 double play on the first pitch to end the inning.
On Deck
The Breds begin a five-game homestand as they welcome Northern Illinois to Reagan Field for a pair of games on March 12-13. Both games of the series will begin at 2 p.m.
