Women's Tennis Falls to Jacksonville State to End Regular Season

The Murray State women's tennis team's seven-match winning-streak ended Saturday afternoon as the Racers dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Jacksonville State at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts.

The Racers dropped the doubles point in the match and needed to win four of the six singles matches in order to keep the streak alive.

JSU (13-10, 7-2 OVC) was able to take the doubles point by winning two of the three matches on Saturday. The Racers (11-8, 8-2 OVC) lost at number one and three doubles by a score of 8-3 in both matches. At number two doubles, the team off Megan Blue and Carla Suga won for the Racers 8-5.

Suga extended her eight-match winning-streak in singles play on Saturday, winning at two singles 7-5 and 6-3. Blue won at number three 6-3 and 6-2. Blue has won six matches in a row and finishes the regular season with a perfect 8-0 mark in the OVC. Carolyn Huerth picked up MSU's third singles win on the day, winning at number five 6-3 and 6-2.

Ashley Canty fell at number one 6-3, 6-2 in her final regular season match as a Racer. Erin Patton lost at number four 7-5 and 6-2, while Suzaan Stoltz fell at six 6-3 and 7-5.

Murray State needs Jacksonville State to lose at Austin Peay tomorrow in order to gain the number two seed in next weekend's OVC Tournament. The two seed would give the Racers a first round bye. Otherwise they will be the three seed and will play at 10 a.m. on Friday.
