Track & Field Has Big Day at Hilltopper Relays

It was a huge day at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Ky., Saturday for the Racers track and field team. Multiple PR's were set at the meet, including a school record and 22 top-10 finishes.
Sharda Bettis set the school record in the 100-meter hurdles, running a personal-best time of 13.72 on Saturday and placed second. LaShea Shaw also had a big race for MSU in the hurdles, recording a new PR and running the sixth-best time in school history. Shaw placed fifth in the event.
Bettis and Shaw followed that performance up with a second and fourth place finish, respectively in the 400 hurdles. Bettis ran the third-fastest time in MSU history and set a new career-best with a time of 1:01.78. Shaw's time of 1:03.18 set a new PR for her and was the 10th-best in program history.
Tonia Pratt, not to be outdone by Bettis and Shaw, recorded the second-best shot put in school history, throwing a career-high 47'-11.75” and taking fourth place. Pratt also took home fifth in both the hammer throw and discus. Pratt had a throw of 148' in the discus and 169'-4” in the hammer.
The Racers picked up a title in the 4x100 meter relay at the meet. The team of Shaw, Hannah McAllister, Bettis and Alexis Love ran a time of 46.46. The All-American Love also took home second place in the 200 dash, running a time of 24.57.
Sydney Potts placed third in the javelin, throwing a season-high 120'-07” at the relays. The Racers also had a solid day in the jumps. Kiara Austin took sixth with a jump of 37'-8.50” in the triple jump, while Jill Jachino took ninth in the event with a season-best jump of 34'-11”. Katie Forshey and Ashley Conway placed seventh and eighth, respectively in the high jump. Forshey set a season-high with a leap of 5'-5”. Conway recorded a jump of 5'-3”.
The Racers got a big race in the 1,500 as Abbie Oliver, Alicyn Hester and Carolyne Tanui all set personal-bests in the race. Oliver placed fifth with a time of 4:42.93, Hester was seventh with a time of 4:47.57 and Tanui placed eighth, running a time of 4:49.11.
MSU also got three top-10 finishes in the 800 meters. Brittany Bohn ran a season-best time of 2:20.94 and finished seventh. Oliver was ninth with a season-best time of 2:22.01. Tanui placed 10th and ran a new career-best time of 2:22.42.
The Racers got two more PR's from Abby Baker in the 5,000. Baker ran a time of 19:22.03 and finished in eighth. McAllister took seventh in the 100 dash with a time of 12.29.
Next up, the Racers will travel to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
