The Murray State track and field team traveled to Austin Peay Tuesday night for the Showdown on the Cumberland. The Racers competed in the dual meet against the Governors and Tennessee Tech.

The Racers had a strong meet in the field events Tuesday, getting three victories at the meet. Tonia Pratt took first place in both the shot put and the discus at the Showdown. Pratt's throw of 46'-4.5” in the shot is the fifth-best toss in school history. Pratt's distance of 148'-11” in the discus is the fourth-highest mark in MSU history.

Katie Forshey picked up the Racers' other event win Tuesday. Forshey recorded a jump of 5'-3” in the high jump to win the event. The long jump was also a strong event for Murray State, as Ashley Conway and Jolyta Taylor took third and fourth, respectively. Conway's leap of 17'-8” is a new career-high for her, while Taylor's mark of 16'-11.5” is a new season PR for her.

The Racers got three top-five finishes in the 200 meter dash on the night. Taylor continued her strong meet by placing second in the sprint. Taylor's time of 26.2 set a new career-best for her. KeLai Hicks placed third with a PR time of 26.4. Hannah McAllister finished third with a time of 26.5.

In the 1,500, Abbie Oliver and Brittany Bohn placed second and third, respectively. Oliver recorded a time of 4:49 while Bohn clocked inn at 4:53.5. Emma Gilmore placed third in the 800 for the Racers, recording a time of 2:22.5. Bohn placed fourth in the event with a time of 2:24.4.

In the 300 meters, Sharda Bettis placed third with a time of 40.8, while LaShea Shaw placed fifth with a time of 41.3.

MSU got strong performances from Addie Paris and Mariah Hoke as well in the shot put. Paris placed fourth with a season-high toss of 37'8.25”. Hoke placed fifth with a career-best throw of 35'5.5”. Brianna McCarthy set a season-high in the discus with a throw of 119'-7.25” in the event.
