Breds Offense Silenced in Opener at Tennessee Tech

The Murray State offense only managed two hits off Tennessee Tech starter Tristan Archer Friday evening as the Golden Eagles handed the Breds a 4-1 defeat in the first game of a three-game series at Bush Stadium.

Archer (7-3) allowed a leadoff single to Ty Stetson in the top of the first inning, and then went on to retired 21-straight hitters before walking Dylan Wheeler to lead off the eighth inning. Archer finished the game allowing one run on two hits and 10 strikeouts over 8.2 innings.

MSU starter Cameron Finch (4-3) was equally impressive as he allowed four runs, two earned, on just four hits over 5.2 innings. Brock Downey came out of the bullpen and retired all seven hitters he faced.

The Golden Eagles (30-12, 17-5 OVC) took advantage of a throwing error in the second inning to push across an unearned run. Dylan Bosheers single with one out, and then reached second as a comebacker to the mound was thrown away at second. James Abraham delivered an RBI groundout after the runners advanced on a wild pitch.

TTU added to its lead in the fourth inning as a leadoff walk scored on a Daniel Miles triple to center field. Michael Morris then scored Miles with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Breds gave the Golden Eagles a run in the sixth with a fielding error with two outs. With a runner on second and two outs, Jordan Parris hit a slow roller to third that ended up in shallow left field to score the runner.

MSU (17-14, 6-13 OVC) finally got on board in the ninth inning. With a runner on second and two outs, Brandon Eggenschwiler delivered a double over the outstretched glove of the left fielder to score Stetson from second.

The two teams are scheduled to play the middle game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
