Breds Battle Back, Fall in Extras

Murray State battled back from a six-run deficit in the eighth inning, but it was a throwing error in the 10th inning that was the difference as the Breds fell 10-9 to Tennessee Tech in the middle game of a three-game series.
Zach Zarzour started the 10th inning with a single into the hole at short. Austin Wulf followed by putting down a bunt that was thrown down the right-field line, allowing the runner to score all the way from first with the game-winning run.
The Breds forced extra innings as they scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to erase a 9-3 deficit. Dylan Wheeler and Noah Zipko walked to start the inning, and Dalton West singled through the right side to load the bases. Rick Linton beat out a chopper in front of the plate to score the first run of the inning. Paul Ritzheimer followed with a chopper to third that was thrown away at first, allowing all three runners to score. Brandon Elliott brought the Breds within a run with an RBI double to right center, and Wheeler tied the game by driving in Elliott with a two-out single through the left side.
The Breds (17-25, 6-14 OVC) got on the board in the top of the first inning as Ty Stetson drew a four-pitch walk to star the game. After stealing second and going to third on a groundout, Mike Kozlowski delivered an RBI double off the wall in left center.
The Golden Eagles (31-12, 18-5 OVC) got the run back in the home-half of the inning as a throwing error with two outs kept the inning alive and put runners on the corners. Two pitches later, a wild pitch sailed to the backstop, allowing the runner to score from third.
The second inning started bad for the Breds as a walk and a hit by pitch set up TTU for a big inning. James Abraham and Jordan Parris delivered back-to-back RBI singles, and Brandon Thomasson came through with a two-out two-run single to left field.
The lead grew to 7-1 in the fourth inning after Dylan Bosheers tripled to right field to score two runs.
MSU got a pair of runs back in the fifth with a two-out rally of their own. Elliott drove in the first run of the inning with a double off the wall in left field, and then scored on Brandon Eggenschwiler's single to center field.
TTU scored its second run of the game on a wild pitch in the fifth after putting runners on second and third with a single and bloop double. Zarzour drove in the ninth run of the game with a bloop single to center in the seventh.
Cameron Wallace (1-1) was very strong out of the bullpen in the loss. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and four strikeouts over a career-long 4.1 innings. Seth Lucio (3-1) earned the victory after allowing one unearned run on three hits and three strikeouts over three innings.
Elliott paced the 13-hit attack by going 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs and two-runs scored. Eggenschwiler, Wheeler, West and Linton each added two hits.
The two teams close out the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
