Tennessee Tech scored nine runs over the final three innings and got a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to hand Murray State a 10-6 defeat in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Bush Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (32-12, 19-5 OVC) started the 10th inning with a bloop double. A walk and an intentional walk loaded the bases before Evan Frazier hit a grand slam over the wall in right center.
The offense got going for the Breds (17-26, 6-15 OVC) in the second as they pushed across four runs on four hits. Mike Kozlowski and Dylan Wheeler started the frame with back-to-back singles to center field. Noah Zipko plated both runners with a triple to right center. Rick Linton drove in Zipko with a double of his own into the gap in right center, and then scored on a Paul Ritzheimer groundout to short.
Two hits to start the third helped MSU push across another run. Brandon Eggenschwiler drew a leadoff walk and Kozlowski followed with a double to right center. Dalton West drove in the runner from third with a groundout to the right side.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the fourth as Tevis Sherfield delivered a two-out single up the middle to score the runner from second.
Linton gave the Breds a five-run advantage in the eighth with his first career home run to right center.
TTU pulled within two runs in the home-half of the inning as they got a two-run home run from Zach Stephens and a solo shot from Daniel Miles. Stephens was not done as he came back up in the ninth and delivered a two-run home run to right field to tie the game 6-6.
Cashtyn DeLeeuw pitched good enough to get the win as he allowed just one run on nine hits over seven innings. Brock Downey (0-4) took the loss after giving up nine runs on eight hits over 2.1 innings. David Hess (5-2) earned the victory after giving up one run over 3.2 innings.
Kozlowskii swung a hot bat as he went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a walk. The bottom three hitters in the lineup, Zipko, Linton and Ritzheimer, each had two hits.
The Breds return to action Tuesday afternoon as they open a two-game midweek series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The series is set to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
