STORY LINES
The Racers play their second game against an FBS opponent this season as they travel to face Bowling Green. The two teams are meeting for the first time. The game is the second against a team for the MAC in the Chris Hatcher era. Hatcher opened his tenure at MSU against Kent State.
Quarterback Maikhail Miller and return specialist Walter Powell earned weekly honors from the Ohio Valley Conference. Miller was selected as the co-newcomer of the week, while Powell was voted the co-specialist.
Wide receiver Walter Powell had a career day against Missouri State as he totaled five touchdowns. He hauled in 11 catches for 155 yards and four touchdowns, while also returning the second-half kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown.
Sophomore Maikhail Miller led the Racers on a game-winning 75-yard drive in the game's final minutes. Miller ended the drive with a 15-yard TD pass to Powell on 4th-and-10. Miller finished the day 24-of-33 for 272 yards and five touchdowns.
The game-winning fourth-quarter drive was the first last-minute victory in the Chris Hatcher era.

The Racers hit the road for their second FBS contest of the season as they take on Bowling Green. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN3.
vs. Bowling Green
The Racers and Falcons are meeting for the first time in school history. The contest marks the second time in the Chris Hatcher era the Racers will play a team from the MAC. Hatcher faced Kent State in his first game as the Racer head coach.
Opening-Drive Turnovers
In each of its first three games, the MSU defense has forced a turnover on the opponents opening drive of the game. The Racers got a fumble to start the season at Missouri, and have recorded interceptions against Campbellsville and Missouri State.
Powell Earns National Honors
Walter Powell took home several national honors after his performance against Missouri State as he was named the National All-Purpose Performer and National Kickoff Returner of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards. He and Maikhail Miller were named to the honor roll at their respective positions. Powell was also named Specialist of the Week by Beyond Sports Network.
Duo Earns OVC Honors
The duo of Maikhail Miller and Walter Powell were honored by the OVC for their efforts against Missouri State. Miller was the co-newcomer of the week, while Powell was the co-specialist of the week.
Miller Leads Game-Winning Drive
Maikhail Miller found a way to finish against Missouri State as he led the Racers on a game-winning 75-yard drive in the game's final minute. Miller threw a 15-yard fade to Walter Powell on fourth down for the game-winning TD with 23.8 remaining.
Powell Catches 4 TDs
Senior Walter Powell put on a show against Missouri State as he caught 11 passes for 155 yards and a career-best four touchdowns. He caught a 37-yard TD pass in the first quarter, before hauling in a 66-yard TD in the third quarter and a pair of scores in the fourth. Both of his fourth-quarter touchdowns came on fourth downs.
5 Total TDs
Walter Powell finished the game against Missouri State with a career-high five total touchdowns. He became the first Racer with five touchdowns in a game since Marcus Harris had five receiving touchdowns against Missouri State in 2010.
Trickeration
The Racers reached into their back of tricks in the fourth quarter as they used a pair of trick plays to score a touchdown and a two-point conversion. The Racers scored the TD on a double-reverse pass, then executed the two-point play on a Jordan Morrow run around left side.
Powell Goes 98 Yards
Walter Powell returned the second-half kickoff 98 yards for his first career kickoff return for touchdown. The 98 yards ties Duane Brady's 98-yard return against UT Martin 2011, and is one-yard shy of the record held by three players. Nick Nance went 99 yards against Eastern Kentucky, while Vic Kubu went did it against Arkansas State in 1963 and Donald Hitson against Western Kentucky in 1996.
Miller Tosses 5 TDs
Maikhail Miller became the sixth Racer quarterback to throw five touchdowns in a game. Miller threw four of his five TD passes in the second half, including the game-winner with 23.8 remaining.
Sims Makes 13 Stops
Linebacker Chavez Sims followed up his record-setting performance by posting 13 tackles against Missouri State. Sims added a sack and two tackles-for-loss in the victory.
Davis Finds Endzone for 1st Time
Janawski Davis found the endzone for the first time in his career against Missouri State when he hauled in a 52-yard pass from Maikhail Miller on the first drive of the second half.
