Katarina Bisercic took home the individual win in the air rifle, firing a score of 593. She also finished fifth overall in the smallbore, with a 572. Following the match, Bisercic said "I'm glad I was able to finish strong after a rough start. I know what I need to work on and am looking forward to our next match."
"Katy had a good all-around day. She battled through some things and it shows why she is a special shooter," said Head Coach Alan Lollar. Â
The Racers took home spots two through seven in the smallbore. Kelsey Emme and Bill Harvey tied for the leading score for MSU in the discipline, each shooting a 574. Ryan Limpus tied a season-best shooting a 573 while Tessa Howald (572) and Michael Burzynski (571) rounded out the group.
Emme, Howald and Burzynski also finished in the top-10 in the air rifle competition. Emme (585) placed third, Howald (582) fifth and Burzynski (580) eighth.
"It was a fight, but even though I had some shots I was not happy with, I was pleased with the overall two-gun day," said Burzynski.
Coach Lollar was also pleased with Burzynski's day, saying "Mikey had a solid day when we needed it. His hard work is paying off."
Hannah Harris, who shot a personal-best 562 smallbore and a 558 air rifle, took many positives away from this match. "We had our ups-and-downs, but I think it was a solid start," said Harris. "I was pleased with my smallbore and am working to improve both guns."
Coach Lollar has also seen an improvement in his sophomore, "Hannah had a sweet day with a smallbore personal best by about 13 points. It's good to see her hard work is paying off."
Murray State will be back in action next weekend, Jan. 18-19 when they travel to West Point, NY to square off against the United States army and in-state rival Kentucky.
