Rifle Bounces Back With Win Over Ole Miss

After a loss to Nebraska on Friday, the 5th-ranked Murray State rifle team bounced back on Saturday with a 4653-4598 win over No. 14 Ole Miss at the Nebraska Rifle Range in Lincoln.
"I thought we had a good day," said head coach Alan Lollar following the match. "We came back from some difficulties yesterday and got better in some areas today. After this stretch of matches, we know a little better what we need to work on and can tailor training to deal with that."
"I thought Ivan did a nice job again today," Lollar continued. "Ben was solid in smallbore and Kelsey also had a nice day and is having a nice start to the year. Now we have two weeks to train and get ready to host Jacksonville State and TCU at home. It will be good to get home."
Senior Kelsey Emme and freshman Ivan Roe shot identical scores in both events with a 577 in smallbore and a 591 in air rifle to lead the Racers in the match with aggregate scores of 1168. The air rifle score was the best of the day on either team and is a season high for both shooters.
The smallbore event was led by Ben Estes with a 581, who finished with a total score of 1161, when combined with a 580 in air rifle. Tessa Howald also had a solid day with a 570 in smallbore and a 582 in air rifle for a total of 1152. Ryan Limpus turned in a 574 in small bore, while Kaitlyn Wilson had a 575 in air rifle to round out the MSU squaded shooters.
The Racers will now have a week off before returning to action on Oct. 25 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray. The event will be the first of two MSU hosted tri-matches on the season where the Racers will take on No. 4 Jacksonville State and No. 8 TCU.
