Racer Rifle Solid; Edged by JSU, TCU
10/26/2014 9:17:00 PM | Rifle
Despite a strong score, the 8th-ranked Murray State rifle team fell by two extremely slim margins to No. 4 TCU and No. 7 Jacksonville State. The Racers shot a 4662 on the weekend, but were edged by a 4663 from TCU and 4664 from Jacksonville State.
"I thought it was a nice day today," said head coach Alan Lollar. "We are starting to get more consistent at a higher level and that's what it is all about."
"This year we have started to raise the standard for our training," continued Lollar. "I think that's the difference right now. Ryan did a good job on the smallbore squad this week, everyone contributed to the effort and that's the way it should be."
Tessa Howald shot a 580 in smallbore and a 588 in air rifle for a total of 1168, leading the team in smallbore and aggregate scores. Ivan Roe turned in a team-high and personal best of 591 in the air rifle, to go along with a 575 in smallbore for an aggregate of 1176.
Ben Estes shot a 582 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore to end the day with an 1165 total, while Kelsey Emme followed with a 574 smallbore score and a 585 in air rifle for an 1159 aggregate. Ryan Limpus shot a 578 smallbore and Kaitlyn Wilson had a 580 in air rifle to round out MSU's squaded shooters.
Murray State will return to action in two weeks when it takes on two teams in Lexington, Ky. On Nov. 2, the Racers will take on 2nd-ranked Kentucky, followed by No. 13 Army on Nov. 3.
