Murray State Sweeps SIU Edwardsville

The Murray State volleyball team swept SIU Edwardsville 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23) Friday at Racer Arena.Murray State set an attendance record of 1,063 at tonight's match. The previous record was 823 when MSU faced UT Martin on November 7, 2006.Â
The first set was a back and forth set between the OVC opponents. Murray State (17-4, 8-1 OVC) took a 10-6 lead. The Cougars (9-15, 1-8 OVC) tried to come back but were unable to take any lead. Murray State took the first set 25-22.
The second started with SIUE taking a quick 5-1 lead, but MSU fought back and took a 14-10 lead. The two teams continued to fight for the win, but eventually Murray State took the second set 25-18.
Just like the second set, SIU Edwardsville took a quick lead 7-3 in the third set. The Cougars still held the lead 19-16. The Racers would not give up as they battled from behind to pull ahead and take the third and final set 25-23.
Scottie Ingram led the Racers with 13 kills, followed by Taylor Olden who turned in 9. Sam Bedard turned in 30 assists. Kristen Besselsen led the team with 10 digs.
Murray State will face Eastern Illinois Saturday at 11 a.m. at Racer Arena.Â
