The Murray State women's basketball team will face Alabama A&M Sunday at 3 p.m. at the CFSB Center.
The Racers fell in the season opener 60-111. Ohio was able to find openings and put up 18 from behind the arc. MSU defense was able to grab eight steals and force 15 turnovers, but that wasn't enough to help the Racers. After sitting out last season, Ke'Shunan James came out strong with 20 points and seven rebounds. Jashae Lee led the team with eight rebounds. Keiona Kirby shot 6-6 from the free-throw line.
Murray State and Alabama A&M have faced each other starting in 2007. The Racers hold a three game winning streak at home, but Alabama A&M defeated MSU last year 69-62.
The Bulldogs faced OVC opponent Southeast Missouri in their season opener. The Redawks defeated Alabama A&M 66-38. They were held to a 22.2 field goal percentage. Brittney Strickland scored team high 10 points, while Taylor Sippial grabbed down 10 rebounds. Graudate student, Brittney Strickland was named to the All-SWAC preseason second team before the start of the season. She averaged 17.2 points and 3.2 assists during the 2013-14 season.Â
