Racers Score 102; Rout Alabama A&M

The Murray State women's basketball team defeated Alabama A&M 102-81 Sunday at the CFSB Center. MSU had not scored triple digits against a Division I opponent since Dec.19, 2006 against Jacksonville State where they scored 100.
The Racers (1-1) took control in the first half by going on a 20-0 run to take a 24-8 lead. The Lady Bulldogs (0-2) tried to make a comeback and took the fouling of Murray State to their advantage. Alabama A&M made 7-8 free throws to bring the score to 33-19 with seven minutes in the first half. MSU continued to make its way down the court and a hold a 42-32 advantage going into half time.
Ke'Shunan James shot 4-5 from the field and went into halftime with eight points, while LeAsia Wright led the team with 10 points. The team pulled down 32 rebounds in the first half, with Kyra Gulledge grabbing eight.
The Racers came into the second half strong and looked to continue their lead. Murray State went on a 6-0 run to keep its advantage at 78-63 with nine minutes left in the game. Turnovers were a key factor in the game with MSU forcing 17 total, including six in the last eight minutes.Â
The Racers had four players come away with double-digit points including Keiona Kirby who led the team with 23 points. She was five-of-eight from three-point range setting a new career high. LeAsia Wright came off the bench to score 18, while dishing out five assists going three-for-three from the free throw line. Olivia Cunningham recorded 13 points, while James had 12 points to go along with seven rebounds. Netanya Jackson pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, and tied her career high in blocks with three.
Murray State continues its homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Blackburn at 7 p.m.
