The Murray State women's basketball team took control of Blackburn in a 110-31 win Tuesday night at the CFSB Center in Murray. Tuesday's contest marks the first time in program history that MSU has scored triple digit points in back-to-back games.
The Racers (2-1) started the game going on a 21-0 run, making shots at a high percentage and forcing the Beavers (0-1) to turn over the ball multiple times. After giving up one basket midway through the frame, MSU went on a 26-4 run to keep its advantage at 36-4. Murray State was able to force 17 turnovers in the opening stanza, which translated into 30 points. The Racers cruised for the remainder of the half and took a 63-20 lead into the locker room at the break.
MSU started the second half the same way it did in the first half by going on a 9-0 run to maintain a 72-20 lead. Murray State continued to force turnovers in the contest and finished with a plus-20 turnover margin and a whopping 18 steals
Six Murray State players scored in double-digits Tuesday, including Ke'Shunan James with a game-high 21 points. Julia Fox came off the bench and scored 14, Keiona Kirby added 13, while Jasmine Borders and Kyra Gulledge recorded 10 points each. Every Racer had at least two rebounds, with Lexii Cassell crashing the glass for a game-high 11 to go along with six points and a block.
After opening the season with a three-game home stand, Murray State hits the road for the first time Thursday when it travels to Wright State. Tip-off from the Nutter Center in Dayton is set for 6 p.m. CST.
