Murray State women's basketball team heads back on the road to take on Illinois Monday Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. MSU will face the Fighting Illini for the first time in series history. The Racers are 8-8 under head coach Rob Cross when facing a new opponent, while they are also 0-3 against Big Ten opponents.

The Murray State women's basketball team dropped 12 from the behind the arc to defeat Jacksonville 80-62 Saturday at the CFSB Center. MSU improves to a 6-1 record under head coach Rob Cross when facing a new opponent at home, and 8-8 overall when facing a new opponent. Kirby had a game-high 20 points, while Cunningham and James added 18 and 17, respectively. Kirby and James led the Racers with eight and seven rebounds, respectively, along with James six assists. Murray State shot 51.0 percent on the game, while holding Jacksonville to 30.4 percent.

Illinois defeated Valparaiso 80-59 on Dec. 13 with Brittany Carter dropping a career-high 22 points. The team shot 53.6 percent from behind the arc, while shooting 47.7 from the field. They were outrebounded by 22, but managed to force Valpo to turn over the ball 23 times in the win. The Fighting Illini have only lost three games this season, with one going into extra time. Illinois is undefeated at the State Farm Center this season.
