The Murray State Racers welcome the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Saturday when they tip at 5:35 p.m. at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 24th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis. Free online video streaming is available at OVCDigitalNetwork.com. The American Sports Network will air the game locally on WDKA. Dave Armstrong and Chris Walker have the call.
In what is still one of the best rivalries in college basketball, the Racers and Hilltoppers haven't played as Ohio Valley Conference members since the early 1980's, but will be meeting for the 23rd time as a non-conference game and for the 152nd time overall. MSU is an original member of the OVC from 1948 as was WKU, who plays its first season in Conference USA.
Each team is coming off of wins this week. The Racers (4-4, 177 NCAA RPI) defeated Bethel at home Wednesday 102-66 in a tune up game, while WKU (3-3, 120) defeated Bowling Green at home 62-52. Â The Racers have three players with 600+ career points in Cameron Payne (708), Jeffery Moss (647) and Jarvis Williams (622). MSU will be battling WKU veterans T.J. Price and George Fant who each have more than 1,300 career points.
This will be the eighth straight season in which MSU and WKU have met. The Racers have won the last three meetings at the CFSB Center since WKU's last win in 2004. In the 15 meetings since 1997, the Racers have won 9-of-15.
Murray State Athletics is collecting toys at the doors to the CFSB Center before the WKU game. "Towing for Toys" is a community-wide effort organized by Max's 641 Towing and the hope is to collect thousands of toys for needy children this Christmas season. Any fan that brings a toy donation and purchases of one ticket, receives one free general admission ticket.
After the game with WKU, the Racers take next week off for semester final exams. MSU goes on the road again for a game at Evansville (Dec. 13) and won't play at the CFSB Center until they meet Alcorn State (Dec. 17).
Saturday's game marks the first visit for the brand new American Sports Network to the CFSB Center. Organized by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, ASN is seen on 162 television stations in 79 markets, reaching approximately 37.5 percent of U.S. television households. See the last page for details on stations that will air the Racers and Hilltoppers Saturday. ASN is set to air four more OVC games this season including: Belmont at Tennessee State (Jan. 25), Tennessee State at Tennessee Tech (Feb 12), UT Martin at Eastern Illinois (Feb. 19), SE Missouri at Eastern Illinois (Feb. 22) and SIUE at Austin Peay (Feb. 26).
