Women’s Tennis Beats ASU for First Time Since 1988

Murray States women's tennis team had lost 10 straight matches to Arkansas State. The two teams have recently renewed their rivalry with three matches the past four years, all three Red Wolf wins. The Racers finally broke through, winning against ASU for the first time since April, 1988 with a 6-1 victory at Kenlake State Park. The Racers improve to 2-0 and have won their first two matches since the 2007-08 season.
The Racers took the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles. Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova were winners at first doubles 6-4 and Andrea Eskauriatza/Erin Patton won at second doubles 6-2. Megan Blue and Carla Suga were unfinished at third doubles after MSU won the doubles point.

In singles competition, the Racers took five matches of six matches. In the closest match of the night, Carla Suga was victorious at No. 2 singles in three sets. After going ahead with a 6-2 win, Suga dropped the second set 3-6 before securing the win with a 10-3 tiebreaker.
Eskauriatza and Eleonore Tchakarova picked up straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively. Eskauriatza won 6-2, 6-3 and Tchkarova 6-3, 6-3.
Verginie Tchakarova and Patton both won in pro sets 8-2 and 8-4 respectively at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Racers return to the court next weekend with matches against Memphis and Chattanooga Feb. 7-8 in Memphis.
