For the fifth time this season, Murray State's Jarvis Williams and Cameron Payne have been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week and Freshman of the Week in the same week. Williams was Co-Newcomer and shared the award with SIUE's Donivine Stewart.
Voting for the OVC awards is by the league's sports information directors.
Payne led the Racers with a 22.5 points per game clip in games against Belmont (Feb. 6) and Tennessee State (Feb. 8). His 29-point effort against the Bruins set his career-high. He also averaged 5.5 assists per game for the week. He was 6-of-15 from 3-point range for 40 percent.
From Bartlett, Tenn., Payne extends his MSU record of OVC weekly freshman awards to seven ahead of the old mark of four by Lamont Sleets in the 1979-80 season. The OVC record of 11 was set by Eastern Kentucky's Matt Witt in the 2002-03 season. Second on the list is Austin Peay's Chris Horton who had nine last season in 2012-13.
Williams, from Macon, Ga., had a big week scoring 18.5 points per game and grabbing 12.0 rebounds per game as he collected a double-double in each game. He leads the OVC with 11 double-doubles. Against Belmont, Williams had 21 points and 13 rebounds and came back against TSU with 16 and 11. For the week, Williams shot 76 percent from the field on 13-of-17 shots.
The Racers (14-9, 9-2 OVC) begin a three-game home stand Thursday when they host SIUE at 7 p.m. in the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
The OVC Player of the Week award was shared by Belmont's J.J. Mann and Angelo Warner of Morehead State.
