The Murray State Racers host the Morehead State Eagles Saturday at 7 p.m. in the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. Â The game marks the final home game of the season and the last for Dexter Fields, MSU's only senior.
The OVC Digital Network has free streaming video online. All MSU games are heard over the air on Racer Radio on WGFE 103.7 FM and free online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com.
The Racers, having already clinched the Ohio Valley Conference West Division title and one of the two top seeds to the OVC Tournament, has their eyes on at least a share of the overall OVC Championship. The Racers enter the game 11-2 in league play, tied with Belmont for the top spot with three games to play. The Bruins are at home against Eastern Illinois Thursday.
Murray State comes into the Morehead game with a 10-game home winning streak dating back to their only loss of the season (Nov. 26) to Middle Tennessee. Inside this 10-game run is a seven-game home streak in OVC games. The Eagles (19-9) are 10-3 in the OVC after a double overtime 90-88 win over Austin Peay on Wednesday at home.
Last week, the Racers scored a pair of wins at home against SIUE 82-72 (Feb. 13) and Eastern Illinois 72-60 (Feb. 15). Jarvis Williams and Cameron Payne were named OVC Newcomer and Freshman of the Week together for the sixth time this season. Payne has eight freshman awards, while Williams has six newcomer awards, both are Murray State single-season records.
The Racers-Eagles series is the third longest running series the Racers have as both are founding members of the OVC and have played 152 times coming into this game. MSU's longest series is with founding member Tennessee Tech of 171 games. The Racers don't make a trip to Morehead this season and the Eagles are making their first trip to Murray in two seasons. The Racers have won 4-of-6 in the series and eight straight games played in Murray. The last time the Eagles won in Murray was in 2003.
The last time these two met (2-20-13) was an instant classic that the Racers won in Morehead 106-100 in double-overtime. The Racers had a 20-point lead as the second half clock dipped under 11 minutes. But the Eagles found a way to tie it and send it into overtime. Isaiah Canaan scored 17 of his 35 points in extra time as the Racers survived a game that is remembered for Murray State's heroics and proof again that Yogi Berra was right when he said "It ain't over til it's over.
The Racers finish the regular season next week with road games at UT Martin (Feb. 27) and Southeast Missouri (March 1). Both games will be aired by the Racer TV Network. Â
