For the first time since 2009, Murray State's women's tennis team defeated Evansville. The Racers (4-3) took down the Purple Aces 6-1 at the Tri-State Athletic Club in Evansville, Ind.
The night started with both teams jockeying for the doubles point. All three matches were decided by two sets or fewer. The number one doubles pair of Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova was barely clipped by Kelsey Costales and Natasha James, 8-7, but Andrea Eskauriatza and Erin Patton and Megan Blue and Carla Suga were able to secure the point with 8-6 wins at No's 2 and 3 respectively.
With the doubles point at hand, MSU only needed to split the singles matches, but the Racers did better than that, winning five of the six draws.
Eskauriatza took down Marketa Trousilova at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-3, while her doubles partner, Patton, picked up her third straight singles win at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4. Â
Verginie Tchakarova also earned her third straight singles win at the No. 5 draw. She defeated Mina Milovic 6-0, 6-3. Her sister, Eleonore Tchakarova, got back in the win column with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Marina Moreno.
Blue also won at singles, 6-1, 6-3 over Costales at the No. 4 position.
MSU will conclude its three-game road trip in Nashville, Tenn. at Lipscomb. The match will be the first of two that weekend, with the Racers facing the Bisons March 1 at 1 p.m., before returning home to square off with Western Kentucky March 2.
