Murray State's Cameron Payne earned Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honor Monday in voting by the league's sports information directors.
Payne shared the award this week with Southeast Missouri's Antonious Cleveland.
Payne had already set the MSU record for single-season freshman awards as this award marks the ninth time this season that he been named the top freshman in the OVC.
Payne, out of Bartlett, Tenn., eclipsed the MSU mark of four by Lamont Sleets in the 1979-80 season and is only two off the OVC record of 11. Eastern Kentucky's Matt Witt set the mark in 2002-03.
In the Racers' 69-58 win over Morehead State on Saturday, Payne had an 18-point first half and finished the day 9-of-15 from the field including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. He finished with a game-high 23 points with three assists.
The Racers (17-9, 12-2 OVC) play the final games of the season this week when they play at UT Martin Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at Southeast Missouri at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be carried by the Racer TV Network locally on the cable systems of Time Warner, Murray Electric and Mediacom. ESPN3.com will also carry the game. All MSU games are on Racer Radio over the air on Froggy 103.7 FM. Online audio is available on Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com.
