For the fourth time this season, Murray State's Jarvis Williams and Cameron Payne have been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week and Freshman of the Week in the same week.
Voting for the OVC awards is by the league's sports information directors.
The Racers played once last week, which was a 96-88 win Friday at Austin Peay. The win pushed MSU's record in the OVC to 8-1, the best in the league and to 13-8 overall.
Williams, a junior from Macon, Ga., scored a career-high 28 points and added 14 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season in the Racers' win in Clarksville, Tenn. He was 12-of-16 from the field and recorded his 12th double-digit rebound game this season. His 12 field goals marked his top game at MSU.
Payne, a freshman from Bartlett, Tenn., extended his MSU single-season record for OVC Freshman of the Week awards to six. He had a career-high 12 assists in the Racers' win for his first MSU double-double as he also scored 12 points. Payne was the first Racer in 15 years to have 12 assists in a game. Aubrey Reese had two such games in 1999. Payne added four rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
The Racers face the Belmont Bruins Thursday at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tenn. ESPNU will air the battle of the top two teams in the OVC. The Racers are 8-1 and the Bruins are 8-2. All MSU games are heard over the air on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM. Racer basketball can also be heard online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com.
