For the first time since 2003, Murray State's women's tennis team will battle in a nonconference match with Tennessee. The two squads will meet for just the fourth time in their history Wednesday, March 19. MSU will seek their first ever win over the 47th ranked Vols.
This will be the third consecutive game for MSU who played Alabama A&M and Jacksonville State earlier in the week. Their match with JSU was rescheduled after a rainout postponed their match Sunday.
MSU swept the Bulldogs 5-0 Monday, playing only two doubles and four singles matches. Suzaan Stoltz played in her first singles match of the spring and picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot. Verginie and Eleonore Tchakarova won 8-0 in doubles and both took home wins in singles competitions. Megan Blue and Carla Suga won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-0, while Suga was victorious at first singles.
The Racers then kicked off their conference schedule at JSU Tuesday, with a 6-1 win over the Gamecocks. MSU swept the doubles competition with the Tchakarova twins taking an 8-5 win at the No. 1 spot, Andrea Eskauriatza and Erin Patton at No. 2 and Suga/Blue at No. 3 also winning, 8-2 and 8-3 respectively.
MSU won five of the six singles draws, including a come-from-behind win from Eleonore Tchakarova in the No. 3 position. Blue and Patton extended their winning streaks to three and four matches respectively, and Verginie Tchakarova improved her spring record to 7-1.
The Vols are coming off their first SEC win over then-54th ranked South Carolina last weekend. UT stands at 5-8 on the season with wins over three ranked opponents. The Vols also shutout OVC foe, Belmont in February.
UT is led by freshman Eve Repic. Repic will enter the match ranked #102 in singles play. She's 7-6 this spring season and has played two ITA top-10 opponents in her last five matches, all at the No. 1 draw.
Fellow freshman Brittany Lindl has been having success recently, mostly in the No. 5 slot. Lindl has three wins in her past 4 matches with the only loss coming to then-ranked #78 Belinda Woolcock of Florida, 7-6 (2), 6-1. Â Â
The match will be at the Purcell Tennis Courts on the MSU campus starting at 10 a.m.Â
