Racers Make Light of Bruins

Finishing up their fifth match in seven games, the Murray State women's tennis team made quick work of Belmont, shutting out the Bruins 7-0. The win is the Racers fourth this week and puts them a season-best four games over .500 at 8-4. MSU's perfect conference record also remains intact, as they improve to 3-0.
The match started out with the doubles competition where the Racers came away with easy wins at the second and third draws. Andrea Eskauriatza and Erin Patton earned an 8-2 victory on court two, while Megan Blue and Carla Suga were winners on court three, 8-1. Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova were ahead 4-3 at No. 1 doubles, but the match went unfinished with the doubles point having been decided.
Eskauriatza and Verginie Tchakarova finished off their day pitching shutouts in their singles matches. Eskauriatza dispatched of Sandra Kancheva 6-0, 6-0 at the first draw while Tchakarova was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at fifth singles over Abbie Mather.
The most competitive match of the afternoon came on court No. 4, where Blue had to go to three sets to claim her victory. She was the only Racer to go to a third set. Blue fell behind after a 6-1 loss to Kendall Warren in the first set, but came back with wins in the second and third 6-3, 6-2 to take the match.
Suga and Eleonore Tchakarova also polished off a pair of two-set wins. Suga won at the No. 2 draw, 6-2, 6-3 against Laura Van Eeckhoudt, while Tchakarova took the third position 6-0, 6-4 over Nikki Maciel. For Tchakarova, it was her fourth singles win this week in five matches.
Patton capped the day with an eight-game pro-set win over Ann Lauren Fiepke, 8-4, in the sixth slot.
MSU will again have a short rest before their next match. The Racers will be in Clarksville, Tenn. to take on Austin Peay Tuesday, March 25. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
